Peninsula Excelsior – Otis Autotronic High-Speed Elevator

This elevator is epic in both ways. It is probably the *only* Otis *Autotronic* car *touch-sensitive* luxury installation in Singapore that survives to this date. This was a bank of three elevators, of which the other two have already been modernized by Otis (which was so generic, I didn’t bother to film). Unfortunately, the classic leveling for this elevator turned out to be dodgy. On its way down, the car overshot the Lobby floor it was supposed to stop at, realigned and failed, and proceeded to skip to the next stop at the First floor. Epic fail that we’ve got here. You can’t scream “modernize” – The hotel staff will simply direct you to take the next modernized car. You can’t have it both ways! The only other known installation I recall was Orchard Hotel, which has been modernized and replaced by Kone Ecodiscs in the early 2000s. Technical Specifications : Floors served : 1, 4 (Locked), Lobby [L], 6 to 21, 22 (Locked, but accessible by modernized cars) Manufacturer : Otis Elevator Company, Autotronic (!) Year installed : 1974 (!) History : Original (!)
