Flight was predictably horrific and I didn’t sleep at all.. :( We arrived at 5am and it was already 33 degrees, and by about lunch it was mid forties. Each time we have stepped outside we’ve experienced this bizarre sensation of being clutched at all over by the hot air and when we were walking down by the Waterfront Promenade, which is all wood, it had that heated/burnt wood smell of a sauna and that’s pretty much what it feels like when you breathe too. It has kind of hampered us because you can’t just wander around on foot in this heat so its been a series of deciding where to go next, without knowing enough about the city to know what we should be seeing but deciding anyway and then getting the quickest transport there possible, mainly cabs and going from one air conditioned place to another wherever possible! We had one or two good cabbies though that understood we just wanted to see things and they took us around the Palm (that you can see on the map up in the right top cormer). Thats where some of the amazing hotels are also. You can’t really go into any of the cool hotels (or their facilities anyway) unless you are staying there which is a bummer.
